Apricot trees bloom in Sandomierz

Drugim zagrożeniem są długie opady deszczu w czasie kwitnienia moreli. Przymrozek w czasie kwitnienia tych delikatnych drzew może spowodować że przemarzną kwiaty i moreli nie będzie w ogóle. Ryzyko jest też przy pięknej pogodzie, bo wówczas zawiązują się wszystkie kwiaty. Powstaje nadprodukcja owoców a wtedy cena moreli gwałtownie spada i uprawa staje się nieopłacalna. Dwa lata temu po przymrozkach moreli prawie nie było, ich cena w sprzedaży hurtowej dochodziła do 7 zł/kg. W ubiegłym roku owoców było dużo a cena w hurcie spadła nawet poniżej 1 złoty. Region Sandomierza jest jedynym w Polsce, gdzie te rzadkie owoce uprawia się na skalę przemysłową. Jest to blisko 500 hektarów sadów morelowych. Roczna produkcja średnio wynosi 7 tysięcy ton. --- Sandomierz Business News from April 27, 2009. Apricot has just began to bloom, they are the first fruit trees to bloom. However the trees don't give plantators reasons to be happy blooming in the middle of April. Primary risk at this season of the year is frost. Second one is prolonged rain fall during blooming time of apricot. Frost during blooming of these delicate trees can cause flowers to freeze and therefore the complete lack of apricot. The risk is present when the weather is fine, too, because all flowers turn into fruits. The fruit is being over produced, apricot price rapidly falls and the production becomes unprofitable. Two years ago after the frosts there was practically no apricot and its wholesale price went up to 7 zł/kg. Last year there was lot of it and the wholesale price fell down even below 1 złoty. The area of Sandomierz is the only one in Poland where this rare fruit is cultivated on industrial scale. There's nearly 500 hectares of apricot trees. Annual production is averagely 7 thousand tonnes.
