Way of the Cross from Nowa Słupia to Holy Cross

Sandomierz News from April 10, 2009. Great Friday is a day we recall the passion of Jesus Christ and His death on the Cross. It's a day of seriousness, meditation and fasting. Many people took part in the biggest Way of the Cross in the area which headed from Nowa Słupia to Holy Cross. The Way of the Cross was preceeded by three additional stations: the Institution of the Eucharist, Prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane and the Betrayal by Judas. Then the faithful followed the ancient pilgrimage route of Polish Kings. The Way of the Cross was leaded by Bishop Edward Frankowski, auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Sandomierz. The Diocese of Sandomierz experiences the peregrination of the Black Madonna of Częstochowa, and this is why the keynote of meditiation during the Way were the sorrows of the Mother, Our Lady of Sorrows, who has always accompanied Jesus, from the beginning to the very end. The Way of the Cross from Nowa Słupia to Holy Cross began the celebrations of the Great Friday. This is the only day in the year when Holy Mass isn't celebrated. During the litugry of Great Friday we experience the passion, death and laying Jesus's body in the tomb. The watch at the tomb lasts all night.
